Q & A with Dr. Amy Pierce, D.D.S.

Q: What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you in your professional dental career?
A: During a restorative procedure our water button got stuck and we basically doused the entire room with water, including ourselves and the patient. Luckily the patient had a great sense of humor.

Q: What’s one thing a new patient would be surprised to know about you?
A: I was a dental assistant for a year while applying to dental school.

Q: Were you ever afraid of the dentist? Why/Why not?
A: I have never been afraid of the dentist, however I still cringe when my teeth are polished.

Q: Why is Dentistry important?
A: Our oral health plays a vital role in our overall health. It’s not just about a pretty smile. Dentistry will help you function appropriately and contribute to your mental and physical wellbeing.

Q: When did you know you wanted to be a dentist?
A: I won a writing contest in 5th grade about wanting to become a dentist; however, I didn’t really discover my passion until my freshman year of college when I shadowed my hometown dentist. He let me hold the extracted tooth in my hand and I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.

Q: What do you like most about the dental profession?
A: Every day, every hour, every patient and every mouth is a different level of complexity that requires pulling together my training and 10+ years of experience.

Q: Why should I go to you for my dental care?
A: A friendly and welcoming environment is very important to me. I want each patient to feel empowered to make the best treatment decision for themselves.

Q: What’s your dental philosophy?
A: Education and prevention are my biggest priorities. When treatment is necessary, a conservative individualized plan is my goal!

Q: What are some of your interests outside the office? Volunteer/hobbies?
A: We love to travel when our schedules allow even if it’s for a short weekend. If I’m being honest though, my interests have become whatever the latest obsession is of one of my three children.
