Staying Healthy This Winter
A healthier body also means healthier teeth. It’s always important to eat healthy so that your
body can function well every day. When you fuel your body properly, you can perform the way
you want, you feel less tired, and you get sick less often. As we head into winter, keep these top
superfoods in mind for better health.
- Spinach
Remember your mother making you eat your spinach? And, of course, there’s always
Popeye. Spinach contains high levels of vitamins A, B2, B6, C, E, and K. You’ll also find
high concentrations of manganese, folate, magnesium, copper, iron, calcium, potassium,
and more. This veggie is jam-packed with goodness for your body and your teeth. - Kale
Kale is considered by some to be the new spinach! It’s also packed with vitamins A, B1,
B2, B3, B6, C, E, and K as well as fiber, manganese, copper, calcium, potassium, iron,
magnesium, phosphorus, omega-3 fats, folate, and protein. - Blueberries
Incorporate a handful of blueberries into your everyday diet. These little bursts of
goodness are loaded with antioxidants, manganese, and vitamins C and K. - Broccoli
Broccoli is another highly valuable green to include in your diet. This ultra-powerful
vegetable contains high levels of vitamins C and K, chromium, folate, and several other
vitamins and minerals that make it a superfood. Plus, it is said to have cancer-fighting
ingredients! - Almonds
Almonds are at the top in the nut category due to high protein and healthy fat levels. A regular diet of a handful of almonds daily has been connected with lower blood pressure and better blood sugar levels and may even help maintain your vision. - Chia Seeds
Chia seeds contain high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, calcium, magnesium, and
manganese. Chia seeds are great sprinkled on salads and vegetables and can also be
made into a pudding. - Beets
Beets are a terrific source of folate, copper, potassium, and manganese as well as dietary fiber, phosphorous, magnesium, vitamins B6 and C, and iron. You can enjoy beets cooked warm either by themselves in a stir-fry or cold in a salad. - Green Tea
Green tea is highly coveted for its antioxidant properties. Green tea is great for your dental health, your skin, your blood pressure, and your heart. You can even place warm tea bags over your eyes. Your skin will love it! - Quinoa
Pronounced ‘keen-wah,’ this rice-like food is gluten-free and provides a great source of
both protein and fiber. Though it’s been around a long time, quinoa has been newly
discovered as a highly valuable super food. It also contains high levels of other nutrients: magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorous, copper, zinc, and iron. - Avocados
Finally, let’s not forget the avocado. Although it lacks a truly defined taste or texture, it contains a substantial amount of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids. Avocados also boast being a nutrient-dense food with nearly 20 vitamins and minerals.
These 10 super foods are readily available at most grocery stores. Stock up this winter—and all
year round—for your better health and wellness.
