When You Haven’t Been to the Dentist in a While
Here’s What You Can Expect…
Has it been a while since your last dental visit? It happens. You may not have had insurance coverage. You may have become busy with life. You may have a fear of the dentist. Or you may be a little embarrassed that it’s been so long. If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, you’re not alone.
At Peace Haven Family Dentistry, we understand, and we don’t judge. Don’t worry. We’ve seen people with all types of oral issues. And we’ve helped our patients who have needed the most TLC to return to better dental health.
Our job is simply to ensure that you have the best possible dental care. So, whatever your reason has been for putting off a dental visit, come see us today. We’ll be happy to get you back on the path to regular dental care.
How to Prepare for Your First Visit Back
Welcome! We look forward to seeing you!
We suggest that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. This will give you enough time to fill out any necessary paperwork, so we can better understand your dental needs.
Please bring any important information with you, including your insurance card or information and a list of any medications that you’re currently taking. If you have any questions you’d like to ask the dentist, please write them down so you don’t forget.
You may also want to avoid scheduling any other meetings, appointments or other activities immediately after your visit. Your initial visit back may take a little longer than normal.
Here’s What You Can Expect on Your First Visit Back
If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, you will probably have a buildup of plaque on your teeth and around your gums. It will take a little longer to remove this layer of plaque from your teeth. There may be some gum bleeding during your cleaning if you haven’t been flossing regularly. And your gums may also be a little sore for about a day after your cleaning. But your teeth will thank you for it!
If it’s been a few years since your last dental visit, you may also have a few cavities. Proper care keeps plaque and tooth decay at bay. But it doesn’t take long for plaque and decay to take hold.
No matter what condition your teeth are in, don’t delay coming in. We’ll get your mouth back in shape in no time. In fact, tooth decay can also lead to other health issues in your body. So, it’s always best to stay on top of your dental care.
We’ll take a full set of X-rays, so we can see what’s going on below the surface of your teeth. And we’ll conduct a comprehensive oral checkup, so you’ll know exactly what’s going on inside of your mouth. If you need a few fillings, we may be able to take care of them at the same time or schedule you for another visit.
Now What Do You Do?
Now that you’ve come in and had your teeth cleaned, you’ll want to keep up the maintenance. We recommend that our patients come in once every six months to keep their teeth clean, maintain their dental health, and catch any other potential dental or other health problems early.
Now that your teeth are clean and back in shape, you’ll be smiling a lot more. You’ll feel more confident and be happier.
Be sure to schedule your next appointment before you leave. We look forward to seeing you again!
